Mental Health Tips for Educators

Just like teaching students about mental health is important, it's important for teachers to take care of their own mental health. Teachers need to be mentally healthy to help them be the best they can be. Read on for some tips for teachers!

Check out this blog on self-care tips for teachers. And here are some more practical ideas that don’t take up a lot of extra time or money:

  • Familiarize yourself with the warning signs of a mental health condition.
  • Drink Water! Everything works better, mentally and physically, when you’re hydrated.
  • Get outside: take a walk around the block, find comfy outdoor seating, or just open a window to get some fresh air.
  • Tune in to a favorite podcast. (We recommend Teachers Off Duty!)
  • Set and Maintain boundaries with parents, students, and admin
  • Recognize what is and isn’t in your control
  • Look out for signs of burnout in yourself
  • Check the lighting in the classroom (since typical school lighting can be harsh and stressful on the eyes and mind.)
