English Description:

Once retired, Yago decides to rebuild an old house that he owns on an inherited farm. Nico will be his best helper both in masonry and as a writer, since the dialogue between the two will give rise to a series of short stories through which the grandfather will teach his grandson to face the world, to lose his fears, to gain confidence in himself and most importantly, to grow as a person. The theme of the different stories reflects the real problems that every young person has to face in the transition from childhood to adolescence: the value of friendship, the importance of family, school failure, the danger of drugs or the phenomenon of bullying, which has recently appeared, are just some of the ideas that lead the reader to reflections, proposals and conclusions loaded with meaning and didactic value.

Teacher Comments: "This book is a collection of short stories that each have a moral. The stories are interwoven within the larger narrative told by the grandson of the main character. They embark on the project of restoring a country home from generations past. After the main character narrates each short story, the grandson shares his reflections and wonderings. Although there is plenty of technical language focused on the restoration process, there are footnotes and detailed explanations within the text. It is possible to read a selected chapter out of order, in order to teach a specific story and moral from the book. It also has exercises at the end of the book focused on paronyms, polysemantic words, and personification."
