The Japan portrayed in this book is an imaginary archipelago that emerges from the prints of the floating world of Hokusai, a painter and printmaker, and from oral narratives that have been handed down for more than a thousand years. Here, the author invites us to listen to the echoes of Bashō, Dōgen, Ueda Akinari, Yoka Daishi, Lafcadio Hearn and Sekien Toriyama through the haibún, a genre that germinates between prose and poetry.
