English Description:

Ecology and spirituality characterize the indigenous peoples' view of nature. In January 1854, the Si'ahl Indian chief (better known as Seattle) gave an eloquent speech explaining why land cannot be sold. Since the nineteenth century, many attempts have been made to recreate Si'ahl's lost words. Here we present, based on what we know today, the most reliable version of the speech in a bilingual and illustrated edition, with a commentary on its key themes and its oratorical quality.
