Wangari Maathai became known around the world for the brave fights she fought for the benefit of the planet, women's rights and freedom. Her country, Kenya, and the rest of Africa opposed deforestation and, thus, managed to revive forests with the help of thousands of people. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004.
